See and Sail Holland in one Week.

In this week we sail to wonderful destinations such as the  west Frisian Islands of Terschelling, Vlieland and Texel and  to the historic port of Amsterdam and  the ancient fishing villages as Enkhuizen and Hindeloopen.

After a brief explanation about the ship routine we cast off from our homeport Harlingen and sail across the Waddenzee. The Waddenzee is  major wet natural reserve with a special flora and fauna. At low tide the Waddensea changes into a unique landscape of small pools and sandbanks with seals on it. The first destination is Texel. On this island it is beautifull  to go on a cycling trip to explore the island.

The next morning we sail across the North Sea to Amsterdam which has a lot to offer. So it won’t be easy to choose from the many possibilities: the Van Gogh museum, Anne Frank museum, Maritime Museum, Royal Palace, the Red Light District. Skipper and guide Eric will be happy to advise you. After Amsterdam we sail to the former Zuiderzee the Ijsselmeer. For centuries, the former “Zuiderzee” had an open access to the North Sea. Since the “Afsluitdijk” has been built in 1932, the present IJsselmeer is a fresh water lake. On its banks, the well-known city of Enkhuizen or the VOC town of Hoorn are very much worth a visit. In Enkhuizen we have to a visit to the ‘Zuiderzee museum’.The Zuiderzeemuseum provides a glimpse of a period when what is now the country's largest inland lake was still a true sea. After breakfast we hoist the sails and set course for Friesland. We moor in the small harbour of the picturesque village of Hindeloopen.

The next day we will  pass the  locks  from the afsluitdijk and we will see the wide horizon of the Waddensea again.

By a combination of wind and manpower we sail to Terschelling. We will anchor close to the ‘Brandaris’, the famous lighthouse of Terschelling, and have some time to rent a bike and explore this West Frisian Island. It is also worthwhile to visit  the Willem Barentz museum, the Shipwreck museum or a nice pub.

Vlieland is a smaller Island which invites for an evening walk along the beach as big as the Sahara desert!  On our last day we sail back to Harlingen to disembark and say goodbye with a feeling of satisfaction and an unforgettable experience.
